Here we are again on the last page of the calendar. As the year draws to a close, we enter into a wonderful time of celebration, giving and reflection. Looking back on this year, our organization has so much to celebrate. In all our programs, we’ve seen young people achieve incredible things, from incredible community-serving Eagle projects, Scouts working with NASA to send an experiment to space, and a STEM Scout being named America’s Top Young Scientist. We’ve even seen history made, when the National Executive Board unanimously decided to better serve families by welcoming girls to join the Cub Scout program in 2018. Next year, we’ll get to see that decision come to life, and I couldn’t be more excited.
But for the BSA, the most important achievement of 2017 is that thousands of young people had once-in-a-lifetime adventures and experiences that will help them become leaders and people of character. Across the country, Scouts found ways to improve the world around them. From helping rebuild after this year’s natural disasters to rallying local communities to give to those in need through Scouting for Food, our participants and the adults who support them have given thousands of hours of service. This makes me extremely proud. I hope every one of those young people understand the incredible difference they have made and their limitless potential to make an impact on our world.
I wish you all a blessed holiday season, full of joy, hope and love. Here’s to a new year full of adventures.
Yours in Scouting,
