New YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING Requirement

Effective June 1, 2010 (Source: http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection.aspx)
Youth Protection Training is required for ALL BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their positions.

       • Charter Representatives and Committee Members now
         must take the training.

       • Institution Heads are still exempt as they are not required
         to register with BSA

New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training BEFORE submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.

  • Training may take place at the unit level in the form of a class or

  • may be completed individually using the BSA's online training.

Youth Protection Training Notice

You do not have to be a registered member or have a member ID to take Youth Protection training.

To take Youth Protection training:

  1. From the menu on the left, click E-Learning.

  2. From the General tab, scroll down to Youth Protection Training and click Take Course.

  3. When you complete the course, print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application, or submit the certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council.

  4. When your volunteer application is approved, you will receive a BSA membership card, which includes your member ID number. After you receive your membership card, log onto MyScouting, click My Profile, and enter your member ID number. This links your Youth Protection training records, and any other MyScouting training records, to your BSA membership.

Remember to Print the Certificate prior to leaving the training web site.

  • A copy of the certificate must accompany all new applications for registration.

  • When the new volunteers receive their BSA membership cards, they should go back to web and add their member number to their profile.

  • We're told this step will make all future online training automatically stored in the BSA database.

Youth Protection training must be taken every two years.

If the volunteer’s Youth Protection is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
