Hello All.. My name is Joyce Wheaton. I am the 2016 Camp Card Chair for the Trail of Tears District. This email is being sent to everyone on the Roundtable email list and all the unit leader contacts I have (scout/cubmaster; committee chair). If you receive it twice at the same email please let me know. I tried to delete all the duplicates when I combined the list.

The 2016 Middle Tennessee Council’s Camp Card Sale will begin on February 29, 2016, and run through April 22, 2016. This $5.00 camp card will help your Scouts earn their way to camp and the unit will earn 50% commission on every camp card sold! Online Unit Registration will begin this week at www.mtcbsa.org! The Council is introducing three new regional camp cards in conjunction with the Nashville card!

The Council will sell four different camp cards for 2016 depending on the location of your Scout unit:

  1. Nashville
  2. Clarksville
  3. Columbia/Lawrenceburg/Pulaski
  4. Cookeville/Sparta/McMinnville

**NOTE: If you choose more than one location for your camp cards please close and register separately.

Camp cards are a great way for your unit and your scouts to earn some money for camping. Registration for camp cards has already begun. We have 9 units that were registered to sell as of 1/19/16. I challenge our district to wipe out the competition with the highest percentage of units in the district selling cards, and the highest number of cards sold across the council again this year. We were the highest unit the last couple of years, and we can do this again. With participation from everyone, We CAN DO THIS!!!

You MUST register no later than January 16, 2015 at the MTCBSA website listed below:

http://mtcbsa.doubleknot.com/event/2016-council-camp-cards/1816489

The cost of the camp cards is $5. Troops can earn up to $2.50 per card they sell – a 50% commission!! These cards are a win-win situation. While they cost your customer $5, the customer can gain more than $18 in one time use parts of the card at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Waffle House, Baskin Robbins, and Ace Hardware (Lowe’s and Home Depot may also accept this coupon – they did last year. Plus, there are 8 offers for free items or $$$ off of a purchase that can be used over and over again until 12/31/16.

In addition to the 50% commission, scouts who sell 100 or more camp cards will receive a free folding tripod camp stool. Scouts who sell 50 camp cards will receive a free camp mess kit. The Top Council Salesperson will receive a 4 person tent. The top District Salesperson will receive a free week of either Council summer camp or Council Winter camp – Summer camp at Boxwell, Winter camp at Boxwell, NYLT, Cub Scout Day Camp, or Cub/Webelos Resident camp.

For troops who would like to sell in front of stores, businesses, etc, please coordinate with stores of your choosing in Rutherford or Cannon counties. Last year we didn’t have many units who did this, so I’m leaving it up to you this year.

Last year, our district had 30 units participating, with a total of around 8500 cards sold for an average of 283 cards sold per participating unit. There are currently about 50 units in our district. It would be awesome if ALL our units would participate in this fund raiser and ALL units would average 500 cards per unit. The cards come in packs of 25. If each scout in our district takes at least one pack and sells it, we can do a lot of good, not only for your units/scouts, but also for the Middle Tennessee Council. Funds used from the sale of camp cards helps with upkeep at the council properties, pays for new tents and platforms as needed, upgrades to the buildings, shower houses, dining halls, etc. As stated, it is really a win-win situation. Council gets funding they need for camp properties, and the units get funding for their programs and their scouts. For those industrious scouts who are the top earners in the District you could help pay your summer camp fees without it coming out of your parents’ pockets. Take them to church, sell them to your neighbors, sign up to sell in front of businesses that I coordinate with. They practically sell themselves.

There is more information on the attached flier. This flier can be printed out to give to the scouts in your units. For those selling in front of businesses, I can see about getting a poster printed with an image of the camp card on it to hang on the front of your table.

The MTC/BSA website has additional information and all the forms you will need to effectively run this fund raiser. http://www.mtcbsa.org/Volunteers/unitsupport/CampCard.html

Good Luck, and please let me know if you need any more information or other assistance, or if you know of any businesses, etc where we can sell camp cards. If you need to email me, PLEASE start a new email – do not respond to this one as everyone doesn’t need to get every email response to me or a question a particular unit has for me to answer only for them. Thanks!!
